Are you a beach lover? Do you prefer a sandy beach with crystal clear blue water?  Or are you the type which prefers a rocky beach?  Do you enjoy participating in various water sports during your day at the beach?  Or perhaps you are in search of that secluded romantic bay only known to the very few?  The Maltese Islands are not offering you one particular type of beach; the Islands are spoiling you for choice.

When it comes to sandy beaches. Malta offers you some big ones where the holidaying crowds gather in their multitudes to spend their days from late morning till the late evening.  Such beaches become a forest of umbrellas during the mid-day sun, and one can chill out at one of the many ice-cream vendors or grab a snack at a fast-food outlet.  The most visited of these bays are Ghadira Bay, Ghajn Tuffieha Bay, Golden Sands, Paradise Bay, Pretty Bay, Armier Bay and St George’s Bay in Malta, whilst Xlendi Bay, Marsalforn and the splendid Ramla l-Hamra  are the most popular in Gozo.  There are also two sandy beaches on the small island of Comino; Santa Marija Bay and San Niklaw Bay.  Build a sand castle or participate in one of the various water sports on offer such as a speedboat ride or take an attempt at water skiing or parasailing for the more adventurous ones.  Such bays are also ideal for children, especially Ghadira Bay, with seas generally remaining shallow for a good distance out.

For those preferring rocky beaches, the Islands have an abundant supply of such beaches.  Enjoy your daily dip, relax under the summer sun, and towel off to continue your day without the worry of getting sand where it should not.  Some of the top rocky beaches in Malta are Anchor Bay, Ghar Lapsi, Marsascala Bay, Marsaxlokk Bay, Mistra Bay, Salina Bay, St Thomas Bay, St Paul’s Bay and Sliema sea front.  Great rocky beaches in Gozo include Marsalforn Bay and Xlendi Bay, whilst Comino boasts its Blue Lagoon, having perhaps the clearest water off a rocky beach anywhere in the Mediterranean. Some of the top diving clubs also operate from these rocky shores at very reasonable rates.
